The Lamar Register (Lamar, Colo.) April 6, 1889 Pg1

Pete Roth, the butcher, killed a steer a few days ago in the course of professional duties, and on one of the jawbones of the esteemed deceased an extraordinary dental phenomenon presented itself. Each tooth in the jawbone was plated with a metallic substance which looked like copper or dull gold.

The teeth were as neatly planted with thin layers of the curious metal as though some bovine dentist had been operating upon the steer for bad teeth.
Who can account for this extraordinary fact ? A New Mexico steer is, of course, superior to any other steer in the world, but his most sanguine friend and champion did not suspect that he had reached such a stage of development that he was compelled to call in the services of a tooth carpenter to take care of his grinders.
This freak of nature (the teeth, not the steer) can be seen at the St. Nicholas Hotel.
