IT ANGERED THE WAITER

William Citzmann, a butcher from St. Louis, ordered catsup with his fried eggs in Beck's restaurant on Fourth street last night.
The order had a strange sound to Harry Hess, the waiter, and instead of placing the catsup bottle at Citzmann's disposal, he slammed him on the left side of the head with it, cutting his ear and scattering catsup all over his clothes.
The bottle broke and pieces of the glass lacerated Citzmann's face in many places. Between blood and catsup, he was almost speechless when he staggered into Central police station.
Surgeon Landen sewed him up and he went to bed. Officers Lillis and Cassidy arrested Hess and he was held on a charge of disturbing the peace.

Monrovia, Cal., Sept. 29--- An accident occurred here yesterday which resulted in the instant death of Nellie W. Hagel, wife of F. G. Hagel, the aeronaut.
The couple have been traveling throughout the state making balloon ascensions and parachute jumps.

Mrs. Hagel made an ascent, and when at a height of 1,000 feet, she pulled the rope which cut the parachute loose. She shot downward like a flash. The air caught the parachute and it commenced to open, but suddenly it became apparent that she was falling.
She came down like a cannon ball. She struck on her back, her head coming in contact with the ground first. Her skull was crushed. Deceased was 33 years of age and a native of Illinois.

THE MAD KING OF BAVARIA

Munich, Apr. 5--- The condition of the insane King Otto of Bavaria has suddenly become worse and it is feared that he is dying.
The condition of the unfortunate monarch has been kept as close as possible and of late it had been thought that he would become quiet and tractable.

This improvement in the mental condition of the king was so marked a year ago that a proposal to declare his reign closed and to crown Prince Luitpold, the regent, as King of Bavaria was definitely abandoned. Within the past three months he has relapsed into his old violent state, and his most dangerous illusion, that of being a stork and able to fly, has again possessed him.

He smokes cigarettes immoderately and displays an inordinate appetite for candies. It requires the constant attention of his attendants to prevent him going naked.
He jumps about like an animal on all fours and insists on taking his food off the floor. His windows have been mostly boarded up because he hates sunlight.

AERONAUT BADLY HURT

Chicago, Sept. 6--- Professor Fothergill was probably fatally injured last evening during a balloon ascension and parachute jump.
While making the ascension, he caught on one of the guy ropes, which tore the parachute, to which he was hanging, away from the balloon.
He fell 200 feet and struck a brick building near the center of the city. The doctor says he is hurt internally and may die. His home is at Cromwell, Indiana.

A PHONOGRAPHIC GHOST

If you sleep in the house of a wizard, you must be prepared for experiences out of the normal. So thinks a gentleman who once spent a night under Mr. Edison's roof.

In the middle of the night he was awakened by the sound of a voice at his elbow. "Midnight has struck!" it said in hollow, but resonant tones.
"Prepare to meet thy God!"

The guest was out of bed in haste. He must be the victim of some hallucination. There was no one in the room. His would be a fine case for the "Psychical Research" people.
But even while these thoughts were passing through his head, he was making for the door.

In the hall he met Mr. Edison, who reassured him by saying, "Don't be scared, old man, it's nothing but a clock."
