LOVERS HANG THEMSELVES

Cynthiana, Ky., Nov. 10--- Two weeks ago Lynn Taylor came to Cynthiana, instead of appearing at the side of Miss Mary Burns on the evening he was to make her his bride.
The mortified and heartbroken girl took the matter so seriously as to prefer death by suicide to facing life afterward.
Yesterday Lynn Taylor committed suicide from remorse, adopting the same method as did Miss Burns, his affianced bride. He hanged himself.

The Jackson Dragon was a massive serpent encountered by a farmer named Jacob Rishel, described in a newspaper account from 1879.
Rishel was passing through a field in Jackson Township on August 16 when he was attacked by a massive serpent-like monster.
Rishel grabbed a scythe from a nearby barn. His first blow severed one of its horns. After the creature became snagged in the prongs of a reaping machine, Rishel was able to decapitate it. The creature appeared to be a large snake as thick as a barrel, but with horns above each eye.
The snake was measured at 34 feet in length. The head was small and flat and was the color of a garter snake.

FLOOD WASHES AWAY CROP, FARMER TAKES POISON

Herman Kotter, residing in Nameoki Township in Madison county, killed himself Monday night because the flood ruined his crops.

Kotter was of a pessimistic disposition and when the floods covered his fields of wheat, only a few days till harvest time, he became more and more despondent. He spoke to friends of his despair, they tried to cheer him, but the sight of the water west of town made him more melancholy.

He announced that he had decided to die, but was laughed at. Monday evening his body was found in the Wabash yards. There were no marks upon it, so it was presumed that he had taken poison. He was 55 years old.

In 1986, Frank Shaw, a NASA archivist at Houston's Johnson Space Center, was walking to his car at the end of his shift when he happened to glance up and see a ghastly black, gargoyle-like figure perched on the edge of one of the Space Center's buildings.

The gargoyle then unfurled its wings and took flight. He was later informed that he was not the first employee to have seen the creature. His supervisor stated that a file has been created on it a few months earlier after two of the German shepherds on the base were found horribly mutilated.

CHILD DEVOURED BY HOGS

Springfield, Ill., Oct. 23-- A State Register special says that the 2-year-old child of Mrs. George Richards, of Ford county, was pulled into a hog pen by the hogs and was devoured before the mother, who was attracted by the child's screams, was able to render any assistance, though she caught an arm of the child, which the hogs then severed from the body.

SAW HORSE TORTURED, THEN TRIED TO LYNCH CABMAN

Paris, May 21-- A conflict between sentiments of curiosity and humanity was seen on the streets of Paris Monday.
A cabman, after trying to raise a fallen horse before a crowd, devised the plan of pouring methylated spirit on the beast's crupper and then setting it on fire.
The crowd watched the proceedings with interest, but when the show was over attempted to lynch the cabman. Police saved the man for prosecution.

HEAD AND HEELS NEARLY MEET

One of the most remarkable cases of hysteria at the City Hospital for some time is that with which Mrs. Emma O'Neal, 22 years old, a shoe worker, of No. 1114 Chouteau avenue, was attacked yesterday.

When taken to that institution Mrs. O'Neal was practically a "human whale bone." Her body was curved backward to a position so that her heels and head nearly touched. She was speechless from the contortion.
She had to be placed sideways on a stretcher. The attendants failed to straighten her body with human force. When the hysterical attack passes away, the physicians say Mrs. O'Neal will be none the worse for her experience.
