Chariton Courier (Mo.) Feb. 17, 1893 Pg2

During the past week the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Indians have been receiving a payment of $38,000 pasture money from the government.
The payment has been made at Auardarko and a large majority of the 3 tribes have been encamped about that place all week.

Many of them suffered greatly during the extreme cold weather. An Apache boy, aged 16, and his 12-year-old sister started to walk 50 miles to secure their share of the money, and were found frozen to death. Gamblers and whisky peddlers have been thick about the camp, and few of the Indians retain their money more than a few hours.

FINED FOR WASHING HIS WIFE'S FACE WITH MUSTARD

For washing his wife's face in mustard, Andrew Blatner was a defendant in the City Hall Police Court yesterday.
The technical charge was disturbing the peace. Following a dispute about some money in his grocery store, at 413 South Broadway, with Mrs. Kate Blatner, his wife, the defendant is alleged to have poured the contents of a mustard bottle into a cloth and rubbed it on the woman's face.
Judge Tracy assessed a fine of $10 against Blatner, remarking that it must have been a hot fight.

SHE WAS BITTEN BY A HORSE

Can a horse-bite produce rheumatism ?
That is the interesting problem a jury in Judge Henry's court is trying to solve.

The question arose in the damage suit of Mrs. G.E. Rees, cashier and superintendent of the Market Square Grocery Company, against David Friedman, a grocer at 421 Walnut street.
Mrs. Rees claims that she was bitten by the horse while passing in front of the store on October 4th last year, and so badly injured that she was unable to continue her occupation.

She asserts that the animal bit her on her right arm, shoulder and elbow, lacerating her flesh and inflicting ugly and dangerous wounds. She assessed her damage at $1,500, and asked the court that Friedman be made to pay that amount.

There was considerable wrangling among the attorneys. Expert testimony was introduced on whether a bite from a horse could produce rheumatism.
The witness states that he had never known of a case, but science has not yet determined what causes rheumatism. The case went to the jury at 5 o'clock.
