While I belive there are a few people at the top who would like to rule the world and are actively trying to get closer to it, I highly doubt there is a generation spanning secret organization trying to accomplish it. And if there is, they are doing a pathetic and lousy job getting there, so they aren't worth worrying about.
The US government is a case in point. All we have to do to bring it down is to collectively stop paying our mortgages. The powers that be may manipulate us but they don't control us. They depend on us like a parasite. And if they push too hard in the wrong direction there are more guns and ammo in private hands here than the entire Chinese and Indian military put together. It's kind of a lousy strategy for world domination to give your adversary such leverage.
For any who really care to research this subject, there are many links out there on the subject. You will run across some ridiculous claims, but that doesn't mean you should dismiss the subject entirely. Sometimes you have to dig through all kinds of bull to find ultimate truth. It's out there, and you just might find more than you bargained for if you dig to deeply.
The truth can set you free, or scare the hell out of you. Either way, atleast you will know.

There have been a few things I've forwarded to a friend of mine that does this research as well, with the caveat...make sure you're sitting on the crapper when you read this.
The "Illuminati" is just a title given to one secret order of individuals whose ultimate goal was and possibly still is world domination. Throughout the history of the world there have been these types of secret groups, who manipulate events in order to satisfy their ultimate goals. Many believe these events have been unfolding over hundreds of years, with each generation of new inductees being schooled on their line of thinking and encouraged to continue on the path. Some would have you believe groups like this don't exist, or that they exist but are not really a secret.
That is because people don't really understand what it means to rule. You can only see what is going on in plain view, without considering the fact that there are those who choose to remain in the shadows.
People such as these are of the highest order, and command tremendous respect and authority among their minions. Just as the Secret Service agents will die for the president, these men would die to protect the identity of those who have transcended the natural order of man today.
They are not shape shifters, they are not aliens, they are an elite order bent on control and the concept of bloodlines. Many of these groups trace their lineage all the way back to Charlemagne, while others claim lineage straight back to Jesus Christ. All have an overgrown sense of self worth, and a complete intolerance for the idea that the goyem should be free to live as they wish.
By influencing events, on both sides of any spectrum, they effectively control the outcome of world events. They start wars, and then influence the the war's outcome to satisfy their original intent. They control the world's wealth, which effectively makes them the rulers of all. They exist, and are present under many titles. You may heard of the Bilderberg Group, the Rothschild family, the Ancient order of the Freemasons.
These are well known groups and people who have been influencing the way the world turns for hundreds of years.
And they are not even the real threat.
You know this because there is actually information out there to be found about them. But they are still perfect examples of "Illuminati" type groups, forever attempting to influence events in the world to comply with an all too old motivation. And that is world domination.
Why it is so hard for people to understand or accept this is lost to me, because throughout history this has been the goal of so many conquerors. To control the world is the ultimate goal of those who hunger for more and more power.
And these same people feel it is their right and their duty to accomplish these goals. To deny their existence is futile, because they are there.
And their plans are forever changing and shaping the way this planet is run. And by the direction the world has been moving in for decades, I'd say they are speeding up the process.
