Can someone please tell me what this "tin foil hat" expression means or refers to????? I don't fully understand what people mean when they say this.
I think it refers to when a person says that the government or another is using mind control on them, that a tin foil hat is helpful. Since aluminum is a metal used to keep electromagnetic waves at bay with the proper electrical equations, they say that people wear tin foil hats to stop the mind control. Something like that.
P.S. Many people will accuse another of being crazy and using tinfoil hats.

It's a slam. Whenever someone doesn't share your viewpoint on whatever topic, just state that they are wearing a tin foil hat. It validates your point of view and further bolsters your prestige since it is always best to belittle others rather than discuss the topic.
I know they are real because I've experienced them on several occasions, as have my children.

How would you rationally discuss the topic when the other party starts off as quoted above? I did not make any slam, just offered what seemed like a good suggestion - to check his gear. Maybe it was just a case of sugar overload on Halloween or a bad reaction to the peanuts in a Snickers bar.

You could always ask for some explication of why the poster offers that view. In this case, some particulars about the experience that leads the poster to accept the validity of his explanation.
Sadly, there is no "tinfoil hat" emoticon that could be used as a catchall response in the Great Debates forum. Like the brilliant well-thought-out rejoinders "Eek", and "Smack".

That sounds like a job for a therapist, and an Internet forum is no place to seek or offer such service. I can just imagine where that conversation would lead. How about just getting advice from an episode of Dr. Phil?

It makes absolutely no difference if; A. you believe me, or B. Make fun of the situation. Facts are facts and tens of thousands of people worldwide have had varying experiences.
I am of sound mind and body and have never had any issue with any form of mental illness. I hold a position that requires high ethical stature and screening constantly. I have no reason to lie or makeup a story. You can believe it or not, just as you can the thousands of others who have expressed similar experiences. I have no doubt many have made up stories for attention, but there are also almost unlimted resources of case study that suggest otherwise.
The evidense is there and mounting daily that we are being visited. Top military and government officials around the world have hinted towards a disclosure coming. I'm sorry if this will disrupt your way or viewing things, but reality is, what it is.

Not at all. If the person wishes to explain his personal experiences that led him to conclude what has been stated, that is good enough for me. I will evaluate evidence when I see it, and not in advance.
