LOL! Interesting comments so far. I will again post the question at hand though. If for some strange reason the military and or government of any country had knowledge and or contact with extra terrestrial life, is it right for them to keep it from the general public?
Side note: I always thought two statements were very apropos.

Should they keep it secret? As an individual, my answer is no. But, if the truth was that our government was told that in 20 years aliens would have backups arriving to overthrow us... then yes, I'd rather not deal with the mass hysteria.
I believe that no such official disclosure is going to be made, which will immediately be taken as incontrovertible evidence by some of our more conspiracy-saturated fellow Americans that, "as usual," our government is holding out on us.

Yup. A perfect example of what I have claimed for years as to why most all government conspiracies I've ever heard of can't be so...most of them require too many people to keep their mouths shut.
You ever notice that most people who buy into so many of the conspiracy theories are also the same ones who'll complain about how inefficient the gov't is?

On the surface, your theory works. But then you would have to assume that the government can't keep anything a secret. And, in the past, it has been known (the government) to keep people out of their secrets, so they could achieve their own personal agendas.

Here's one for starters: The advice given to Cheney by Big Oil which was (coincidentally?) followed close after by the destruction of an oil-producing nation that was home to 30-million prosperous and innocent civilians.
