Years ago a friend claimed to have been 'kidnapped' by aliens. He really believed it - passed a polygraph as well. But I've never seen his story/explanation repeated.
Q. "If these 'aliens' are so all-powerful, how is it that they don't kill us off, or interact with us?"
A. They're not 'aliens' the way you mean. They're humans. Time travellers. They are prohibited from 'changing history', so substantial contact with us is 'verboten'.
Q. "So, why do people (like you) claim to have had contact with them then?"
A. "Because they are humans, they still have many of our same weaknesses and foibles. Given the opportunity could you resist the chance to take an 'upclose & personal' look at the Neanderthals?"
He had a full story of where, when & why these folks come back to check us out including a reasonable explanation of some of the 'mysteries' of ancient civilizations where we ask, "How could our primitive ancestors have done that?"
After decades of thinking about it, I still think he conjured it all up from his imagination.
But, on the other hand are human time travellers from our own destination any less credible that 'aliens' from outer space?

Just the other day Steven Hawking basically said don't talk to aliens. He's like one of the smartest people alive isn't he? If he thinks the aliens are real - we should listen.
