The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (the U.K.) is a kingdom (a type of state) that is comprised of the countries of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
All of the U.K. countries are located on Great Britain except for Northern Ireland which is on the northern part of the island of Ireland.
Ireland is an island to the west of Great Britain.
There are two countries on the island of Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland, as previously noted is part of the U.K. while the Republic of Ireland is a sovereign state.

The term "United Kingdom" refers to the union, in 1701, of England and Scotland which were both separate monarchies at the time albeit with the same monarch. Wales is a Principality and Northern Ireland is a Province. The rest of Ireland is an independent Republic.

Just to add to that for the OP, there was a later Act of Union between Great Britain and Ireland in 1800. When 26 counties of Ireland formed the Irish Free State in the 20th century, the UK became known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
The 1800 Act of Union is still on the books, although amended.
It's not on the Irish statute books though.
OP, what differences were you looking for?
Political, cultural, linguistic??
if you are looking for the cultural differences between britains different countries, like all countries we have our own culture and traditions, but, and although some people would't like to admit it, there are more similarities than differences.

That's true, unfortunately those differences cause (or have caused) major problems
