I know that many UK citizens are fed up with their lives, and the crime and corruption that Britain faces, every day.

Have you considered moving to Canada ?

I'll admit I have thought about it. Not for the reasons stated though.

My wife and I had talked about it a few times and we may well talk about it in another 5 years time (my daughter will be 18 then). The wife and I will only be 45 then so we'll think about it then again along with maybe a couple of other countries. Much of it will depend on how I am in 5 yrs time as I was diagnosed with MS mid-July and we'll have to see how that pans out.

Yep. Hubby and I considered moving to BC which we love but his job is not that portable ( Urban Planner and though the Canadian Planning system is similar to the UK in many ways, getting a job is not that easy). We also considered Alberta but I prefer BC. My Mother is Canadian ( we are estranged so no help from that quarter sadly) so I know Canada quite well and have been to all the Provinces.

My American friends did, they moved to Victoria BC. They were both born in San Antonio Texas, and they are both life long Republicans.

I considered Vancouver, but it was while I lived in Los Angeles. Instead I moved to Santa Barbara. I have family in Toronto and my childhood best friend in Montreal.

NOTE to Mooseketer.

If your Mother is a Canadian citizen, so are YOU.

Citizenship in Canada flows FROM Parent to CHILD.

She doesn't have to do anything to help you. YOU can apply, with supporting birth documents, to be issued a Canadian Passport, from Canada House, in London.

Then, with that Canadian passport in hand, YOU and your Husband can come to Canada.

No Immigration applications, no hassles. You would have to make a Spousal Visa application for your Husband to get a work permit, BUT as a newly minted Canadian citizen, you can live and work anywhere in Canada, with no problems.

Start working on that now. You will need an original of your own birth certificate, and the original of your Mother's BC, and supporting documentation, that shows that she is your Mother.

Aren't you glad that you read this thread ?
