fortune, like the way that Americans pronounce it for chun
of for choon?
for toon perhaps?
I believe the way I pronounce fortune is more like for-chen. I went to Merriam-Webster.com for a confirmation of a pronunciation and it does sound that way to me.
Hang on--here's a Canadian who talks almost exactly the way we do where I live and yet she says For-chun. She even says that's proper but to me it sounds weird. There's a whole list of similar words and it's sort of interesting. How do you pronounce "mature"? She says you can say ma-chur or ma-ture. I say ma-ture with T. My Brit dh says ma-chur.
It is not for for choon in the United States!!!! It is for chun
I've never heard it pronounced that way except on tv. Wheel of For-Chun.
Okay, so New England must be like a separate country. lol
