besides, when many of us, research our family trees, our bloodline, and sir-names......they often come from great britain.
Yes this is true, but it also needs remembered that both world war 1 and 2 were going on for several years before the USA had any official involvment. Other countries such as Australia New Zealand and Canada were involved in both from day one.

That's because of several reasons:

1 - The USA was not a part of the British Empire, nor a related commonwealth.

2 - The majority of the American people were very much against getting involved in another fiasco the Europeans generated for themselves.

3 - The largest ethnic group in the US is of German origin (as my ancestors were) and were not necessarily sympathetic to the UK. The German-American Bund was quite strong until 1941.

Too bad the short-sighted & vindictive WWI victors didn't listen to Woodrow Wilson at Versailles, or the Austrian Corporal might never have advanced beyond being a beer hall thug.

Thank your lucky stars Franklin Roosevelt was Churchill's kindred spirit concerning the nazis & fascists, and that he goaded the Japanese into attacking Pearl Harbor.

I like Brits; and I'm thinking the same goes for the majority of our country! And if I were able to afford living anywhere outside the US it would be either England or Scotland

I'd like to see the results if this same question was asked of americans. I'd have to say it would be the UK without a doubt, I mean everyone likes the British.

im from wales (britain for those who dont know their geography) and i think america is amazing a lot of people say they want to move to new york ( id preferably move to london). alot of people dont like us because they blame them for all these wars weve been in but its our own governments fault for deciding to go with them + people blame us for recession which is true tbh but to be honest the recession hasnt hit britain hasnt hit britain that hard if u look at it overall i no it has been bad considering lots of people have becam homeless in britain and so on but on bbc news its shown you hole towns have been deserted in us because jobs have gone and people havent been able to pay mortgages or cant afford food

so i think britain is us best friend well im sure if britain went to war surely us would help

Nah, judging by the number of scumbags with money Britain accepted lately, Russia is their best friend, not America))))

My only problem with Britain is the horrible exchange rate for our US dollar against the pound!!!!! I wish it would improve so I don't break into a sweat when I think about going there. I know it's mostly our fault; we're in trouble against the Euro also.

If the US is Britain's best friend, it's not clear that the feeling is mutual.

Listening to the BBC this AM and its ostensibly "even-handed" coverage of the elimination of Bin Laden. BBC made sure to find an American who would take the position on the air that, by eliminating Bin Laden, the US had demonstrated that it was "no better" than Bin Laden itself. I'm not sure what drives them to such lunacy, other than a latent and, at times, obvious anti-Americanism that's ultimately driven by a deep-seated resentment of Britain's decline and America's role on the world stage.

Yech. I think I'm swearing off the BBC entirely for a while.

Of course, still love Scotland.

unbelievable--someone with a degree wrote this--'Best Friend in the World'---

Let's hope we aren't codependent.

'Allies'--I prefer to think in those terms.

'Friends are friends in spots'--as I told my 4th graders--when friendships didn't work out as planned.
