Some of you are confusing how the green card lottery works. It's main purpose if for diversity for people from countries that generally have a hard time moving to the US or where there is not a lot of emigration from to the US.

Quote:
Each year, 50,000 United States permanent resident visas are given away to citizens of countries with low immigration rates into the U.S. through a lottery process.
Quote:
Each year, citizens of nations with large numbers of citizens immigrating to the United States are not eligible for the Green Card Lottery.

The UK along with countries like Canada and Mexico are inelligible due to the fact that there are already a high amount immigrants who do come from those nations. For some reason Northern Ireland is exempt from the inelligibility though, I assume they group it in more closely to Ireland as a whole.

"The BBC's Nicholas Witchell said it appeared Piers Morgan remained unrepentant right to the end. "According to one report Mr Morgan refused the demand to apologise, was sacked and immediately escorted from the building," he said"

The only Brit that comes to mind that I abhor, is Piers Morgan. That he calls himself a journalist is amazing.

So, now he's made himself at home in America. PLEASE take him back! We had enough vile slimy "journalists" already without adding him to the lot.

An actual conversation between SOS George C. Marshall and Harry S. Truman immediately following WWII.

Truman (speaking of the decimate allied nations): Mr Secretary W must do something for our friends.

Marshall: Mr President America does not have friends. It has interests.

I'm American of British/Irish descent and honestly while I would consider myself an Anglophile I find patriotism to be silly and chauvinistic.

Exactly, I find it obnoxious when people in Northern Ireland go on like that. Its embarrassing and hideous.

Well the UK did not bother to get involved in the war in Vietnam. It was New Zealand and Australia that sent troops. In addition Israel or Canada never got involved in the Vietnam war. New Zealand and especially Australia has supported and sent troops to support US efforts in Iraq and Afganistan as well. Israel has not even had joined the US in its war effort in Iraq or Afganistan.

A post from me from a previous thread

"Who needs enemies with friends like you! Your biggest allies, and young men from my city are still dying fighting alongside Americans in Afghanistan, for a DECADE because your country was dreadfully attacked. Nearly 500 British dead, 2000 Americans you have way more than 4 times the number of troops as us so we have suffered just as painfully as America. Only five British men died between April 2002 and early March 2006, so we have been hit hard in recent years"
