Well there you go.. recent poll shows we want Trump to visit the UK to meet our Queen... as I do.

More Britons are in favour of a Donald Trump state visit to the UK than are against it, poll shows

I'm pretty sure that is not accurate.

I doubt that most Brits really care one way or the other.

The Polls are usually based on a sample of 1,000 people and were inaccurate when it came to the last UK Election, Brexit and indeed US Polls predicted a Hillary Clinton win.

I don't mind Trump visiting, but I am not in favour of an Official State Visit at UK Taxpayers expense, coupled with all the protests (and violence) and associated policing costs etc.

As mentioned in a previous thread, previous two term US Presidents such as Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton never received an Offical State Visit, and no US President has ever been given an Official State visit in their first year.

If you are going to give Trump an Official State Visit at least wait until he had been in Office for a few years.

:
It be like George Bush visit, with massive protests, like when George Bush visited the Queen, there were sighs outside the palace stating that his is not welcome. I believe it will become ugly as well. Of course there be huge security costs even if it is not an official state visit.

Were a lot of people sighing at the same time to be noticed.

That was a complete embarrassment for the US and UK as well, just as this will be, which is why a low key meeting at this stage in his Presidency would be more appriopriate.

I am not in favour of Full State Visits being given to any undemocratic leaders or those who flout human rights but that does not mean I support a Full State Visit by President Trump at this early stage in his Presidency, as for the vast majority of other US Presidents they have not generally received a Full State Visit.

Three US Presidents have been granted Full State Visits to the UK, two of which were under the currents Queen's reign which began in 1952 and all US Presidents that have received such an honour have been in Office for a number of years.

Both Messrs Bush and Obama had to wait until well into their terms of office before they got the call.
