Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are under attack for extravagance on Tuesday after the annual publication of the royal accounts showed they have already spent £2.4m ($3m) of public money renovating their new home, Frogmore Cottage—and work on the property is still not complete.

Critics blasted the lavish expenditure, with Graham Smith, from the anti-monarchy campaign group Republic, among the first to lash out.

Who owns the home? The royals or the public?

It's part of the Crown Estate, and Frogmore Cottage does not belong to Harry and Meghan.

The house needed a new roof, rewiring, and new plumbing. In addition, it had been divided into five separate apartments/row houses (evidently grace and favour dwellings), which were converted back into the original single residence. A new kitchen and updated baths were part of the renovation, but it appears that most of what was done was reasonable upkeep and maintenance. Considering all that was done and the size and age of the house, 3 million is not too far off the mark, though of course it would be better if a bit more frugality could be discerned.

I’m sure that expenditures must go through a set approval system, so if they are squandering money, the “approvers” are at fault.

Obviously, buildings that are hundreds of years old must be very expensive to maintain.

The damp course will be made from the tears of British tax payers.

Still at least Boris will cut the money to Europe and cut the foreign aid budget, which collectively account for around £23 Billion a year.

Irony, Laddy. It's called Irony.

I am beginning to see that the claim the British have a patent on it is a bunch of bunk.
