But hey,we xenophobic Little Englanders who voted Brexit are supposed to hate foreigners ...
In my experience, Little Englander expats are more racist and xenophobic than the average person on a British high street. But then there is always something a bit off about anyone who is very anti immigrant that lives in another country.
Dave, the funniest part of this is that Bacardi & coke was fairly popular in South Jersey. You could have asked for it and gotten it at any of the casinos in Atlantic City, without anyone batting an eye.
The problem wasn't Bacardi..........
It's funny how these threads turn out. It was a fun thread until two characters came along. Maybe some liked their bitching at each other more?
I'm born and raised in the US and I love the tea time, snacks/ candies.. I do think about the bad teeth and think sometimes hearing them talk it's hard to understand.
I have had a lifelong obsession with England/ London, snacks, teas. Hopefully one day I'll visit London.

Forget London. It's just a tourist trap nowadays. The real Londoners aren't there anymore. You'll find what you're looking for in places like Yorkshire, or Devon and Cornwall.
"real Londoners"? Haha. You've become your own stereotype. You don't even know what it is that she likes about London and you are already trying to fob her off with some snobbery.
London is a living city. It changes along with its people. If it didn't then it would be a real tourist trap like a theme park.

Plenty to see for a tourist in London. Great museums, art galleries, theatres. If that's what she wants. If she wants to mix with real Londoners, she's better go to Essex, because that's where they reside these days.
If she wants the nice tea and scones, like I said, Devon, Cornwall, or Yorkshire. She'll meet real English people there, not foreigners.

Oh yes! My favorite places are Devon and Cornwall (and of course, Yorkshire because of my family) and one other place called Somerset. Those places are genuine to me and there is so much to see. Nice people. And in the west country, their accents are easier to understand because they pronounce the letter "r"--apparently we got our American accents from them. This dropping the "r" and trying to sound posh, is a later development.
The coast of Cornwall is heaven on earth, so beautiful. And in Devon I saw the most beautiful pastries and pretty places to eat. A very wonderful place is Salisbury though--maybe that's my favorite. I don't know, I like it practically wherever I go. (and mostly I know the places to stay away from, lol.)

London is not what it used to be. It's far less "English" and much more "international" today. I defy anyone who remembers London as recently as the 1990s to pretend this isn't the case.
The institutions and museums and buildings are still there but if you want to get a sense of England you need to leave London.
