Labour withdrew their candidate, due to some of his controversial view paving the way for Galloway to win.

However Labour Leader Keir Starmer now suggests this was the correct call, and that Labour will win the seat back when it puts a more credible candidate in place in relation to the upcoming General Election, although the actual election date is yet to be announced.

Rochdale by-election: George Galloway only won because Labour ditched candidate, says Starmer - Sky News (1st Match 2024)

Rochdale has a large asian population which is why Galloway won, he made it all about Gaza not local problems, the turnout was low, it usually is in by elections, a general election will be a different matter.

The article I linked to painted Rochdale as an economically-depressed community, one where a hard-left firebrand might get elected.

A very low turn out. He will be very lucky, one suspects to keep his seat come the forth coming election. One thing he is good amusement value. I suspect though in general a great disillusionment by many in British politics. Who can blame people with the state of the nation after fourteen years of Tory mismanagement and a less than inspiring Labour Party?
