You know what I think, I think the stereotype exists because of TV, movies and the media. Have you ever watched a british sitcom and then watched an american sitcom? Ever noticed how all the actors and actresses on american tv shows and movies are just beautiful perfect people with perfect smiles no matter the character they are playing? Then many british tv shows and movies have actors and actresses have normal looking people with normal teeth. Why, if they have the money don't they get them fixed, I don't know. There are tons of people in the US, trust me, that have very bad or no teeth but you don't see them on TV! I've heard stories of people in the US pulling their own teeth. Wasn't it Jewel who got picked on because she had a gap in her front teeth? I mean other than that there was nothing wrong with them.
I think that's just an observation I have had. My parents are english so I've been back and forth a good bit and seen alot of british shows.
