Interesting article on BBC news.
UK has banned a number of people from entering most of them..
Being supportive of Terrorism but also included in the list.
Rapper Snoop Dog,Dutch Politician Geert Wilders,Martha Stewart.
And Talkradio's Michael Savage for "Provoking Criminal Attacks"
And fostering hatred.

Any thoughts?
Im for freedom of speech unless someone is making direct threats, etc
I defend freedom of speech even for those i disagree with 100%.

No one is saying they don't have freedom of speech - they can say what they want, it just means they can't enter the UK. Plus, many of them arguably have made threats by justifying, glorifying or encouraging terrorist violence. I don't see any reason why they should be allowed in the UK.

Savage is not my cup of tea, but he does defend liberty and attacks the idea of caving in to anarchy. I remember something Barry Goldwater said years ago,
Quote:
Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice. And moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.
The only time I've heard Savage justifying violence is when lives or liberty were threatened. I fear my UK cousins are now sacrificing liberty to the false god of political correctness. And that saddens me.

That's you're right to feel that way, and it's my right to change my mind and cancel my upcoming UK holiday. I'll not financially support a nation of whingers and sissies.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe next time I'll spend two weeks in France. At least they seem to know how to deal with high seas piracy.

Cheers, cousin

You really think I care where you vacation? I'll not resort to childish name calling.

OK franklyn do you think fred Phelps & his odious daughter should be allowed to visit the UK to spout their doctrine of hate? At least we don't have the Patriot Act, which does'nt only strip some people of their freedom of speech, but their actual freedom as well.
I think you should have a great time in France, you won't be missed here.

I dont agree with Phelps and dont believe many do,but do i have the right...To say they should be silenced or jailed?I cant agree with limits on speech, for the most part.Thats part of democracy, the good & bad, people say ugly things..Im offended by much i hear/read/see but thats part of a free society.Lets keep the conservation civil and not get personal.

How so??

The United Kingdom is a sovereign country that has to right to let in or keep out whomever it pleases. And let's not throw stones. The U.S. banned Cat Stevens, for crying out loud.
