What a touching story. I am happy to see that at least some people in the formerly Nazi occupied European countries remember the sacrifices of the British, Canadian, and American military personnel who lost their lives during the liberation of western Europe in 1944/45.
Ive heard a similar story about a Dutch woman who tended the grave of a US Army paratrooper killed in Operation Market Garden and later struck up a friendship with the man's family.
