The International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR) and Rotterdam-based architecture firm ZUS have launched the project I Make Rotterdam, a spectacular temporary pedestrian bridge between the city’s Central and the North districts that will be financed through crowd-funding.
What do you think? Should crowd funding be used more often for public works projects? Or should the govt always flip the bill?
sounds neat, but only can work because it's cheap for infrastructure standards ( €440,000 ). You can't crowdfund a subway line or freeway. This part makes me wonder if there's a danger of building a bridge to nowhere (I've seen a couple real-life ones including a pedestrian overpass bridge that has no connections on either side):
for only €80,000 one first section of the bridge will be already built.
