Cheap and easy way to reduce/eliminate head-on collisions/fatalities

I wasn't, but I'm sure the striping on the road helped to guide them, even it was guiding them in the wrong direction.

I drove onto a freeway off-ramp in the wrong direction once. It was night time and I was drunk, and lost. I was 17 at the time with little driving experience. But luckily somehow managed to turn the car around in time before slamming into anything. I was driving along then all the sudden out of nowhere there was a blinding flash of a dozen car headlights heading straight towards me in the opposite direction. I saw my life flash before my eyes and realized I was driving on a one-way off-ramp in the wrong direction. I remember all those cars honking and screaming at me like crazy.

Thinking back I'm not surprised at all when automobile accidents are the leading cause of death for young people when every damn road is like a drag strip and crying out for you to floor it every chance you got. Youthful hormones plus public roads that are built like drag strips are not a good combination and often results in disaster.
