Golf course belong under flight paths or adjacent to water treatment plants and power plants and other industrial type sites where they can provide a nice green buffer for community beyond.
Other than that, put them out in the suburbs where land is cheap and easy for the people who like cheap and easy things.
and golf courses don't do anything but contribute to sprawl. they are actually the worst kind of sprawl because with tract housing and strip malls at least the land is actually being used for something useful (providing space for housing and businesses). but with golf courses the land isn't doing anything but sitting there and taking up massive amounts of space, which is the worst kind of sprawl there is imo.

Disagree. It's just as bad as big box stores, strip malls, office parks and subdivisions made of ticky tacky. It's the same low internist landuse crap that clips the grid and forces everyone else around it.

"hey this party is pretty kickin eh?"
"doesn't matter! I can't stop thinking about what a waste that golf course down the road is! stupid idiots and their idiotic golf! and all the parking lots!"
"uhh, wut?"
"THE PARKING! what a waste of space! and all that sprawl! all those people in their homes! all those stores that look like boxes that people are shopping in! it's so terrible! we must change..."

Ehh *BUZZER SOUNDS* wrong! Just because you don't like what people use it for != it being a waste of space. Sorry, buddy.

Has any golf course actually been recently created within an urban area? As far as I know, most golf courses were built (or...created) when the population in an area was low and then increased in density over time. It's news to me if buildings are being demolished and streets covered over to make way for golf courses.

so now you're resorting to ad hominems? your desperation and frustration is showing. though I can understand why. it must be hard work trying to defend the indefensible. golf courses are a relic of the 20th century, like big box stores and shopping malls are on their way out and will go the way of the dinosaur soon enough. and no one will miss them.
probably. golf courses eat up far more land than any other sport (if you can call it a sport) and can't be used for anything but playing golf. they are a totally useless eyesore.
...
They should use them for raves.
[i prefer miniature golf]
