I've never been bothered by road noise when inside a building, and I imagine in this place it would be noticeable but not bothersome, depending on how insulated they are. Honestly, I'd be more concerned about all those window air conditioners than a bit of background noise. Why can't they get a central air conditioning system? The beginning and ending of the school year there is certainly hot enough; the only thing that's probably lacking is foresight and money, though lack of funds hasn't stopped them from purchasing dozens of smaller units .

Just seemed like an visually unappealing location IMO. I guess I'm more bothered by road noise than you. I'm guessing they wouldn't open the windows there so the noise won't be too bad. There'd be increased air pollution as well.

Checking, it was one of the better high schools in The Bronx.

Few if any schools in NY state have central A/C. It would require retrofitting. My high school didn't have window A/C s except in a couple of rooms.
