Is there any particular reason the state government of Karnataka and AAI decided to build Bangalore airport 42 km away from the city with no rapid transit access to the core. As it is, Bangalore has the worst traffic mess in India and going from one end of the city to another takes up to 2.5 hours (WITH CONSTANT BLARING HORNS !!!!! ). Without a reliable rapid transit access, going to the airport takes hours and seems like an endless journey through hell. Has anyone else visiting the city noticed this. Its an annoyance and deterrence for people making business visits to India. Please shed your lights on the location of Bangalore airport and the aspects which contribute towards it being an urban planning disaster. Here is the location.

The airport is privately built. Earlier Government built HAL airport was within city limit but then expanding it was very difficult. Land cost is insane in India and new airports are all outside the city. If Taxi is expensive, one should try Bus service Vayu Vajra by Bangalore Metrolpolitan Services Limited.

Yeah it seems like there's villages and such all over the place. In North America, even Europe, you could have the 5-10 square miles or so needed for an airport, and might not have a single community/village in it.
