Just a question regarding property survey;

In example 1; which point would correlate with the N.W. Corner of Block A [1],[2],[3] or [4] ?

Same question for example No. 2, which point would correlate with the N.W. Corner of Block A [1],[2],[3] or [4] ?

Is there a documented standard of which way streets and Avenues run?Some cities set an arbitray grid and say 'Avenues run North South, streets run east west' In which case the Northwest corner would be the corner 1. I actually see no difference in the two situations you ask about.

In the 2 examples, the only difference I'm seeing is the placement of the north arrow.

Even if what MidValleyDad is saying about an arbitrary grid isn't applicable, I'd still say that point 1 is the NW corner.

Most likely the NW corner is "1"; while it's almost due West, the fact that the map has it "up" is a clue that they intend that as North.

If it's Manhattan (which is almost as far off true north), the NW corner is also "1" because avenues run N/S by convention.

Thank you for your responses.

However, in my case, the property is situated across from Block A on A Street. And while it might be hard to believe, according to the 'professionals' the N.W. corner is 2.

Had in the case of the property being surveyed been situated across A Ave. then I could possibly understand how they conclude that corner No 2 would be the N.W. corner, with the opposite corner no. 3 along that frontage line being interpreted as the N.E. corner.

Anyway, I do appreciate it.
