Forgive me, but I have Associated Press style flowing through my veins.
Street designators aren't abbreviated in AP style unless they're part of addresses (e.g., 324 E. 36th St.); when used to describe the streets themselves, they're spelled out in full: North Broad Street, Seventh Avenue (following the AP rule of spelling out numbers below ten).
At the magazine I write for, the designators and compass points are spelled out even when they
are part of addresses.
