I would say the Hamilton and the City Winery in DC, the Rams Head in Maryland and the Birchmere out in Virginia are examples of that.

One goes to see an act with a fanbase not large enough for an arena or even a theater, but perfect for one of these joints. You don't stand with the masses, but rather have reserved seats at a table, Dinner and drinks are served. Just like the old days.

The only difference is not everyone is dressed uniformly sharp.

Very interesting. Why do you think dressing sharp declined? I was watching videos form the 1950s and early 1960s and it seems people dressed much more elegant. It seems that at some point it dressing well stopped being a thing. Maybe it has to do with the hippie movement revolution?

Hmm, it sounds like I spent a lot of time in bars in my youth.
Yes, exactly it seems like it was a hotel. For instance, I remember there were hotels in NYC and Brooklyn which had that sort of event. Where a band will play in the afternoon. I wonder why isn't this set up more popular? It seems that you have to seek it out. For instance, most of the bars I've been in small towns have been overcrowded. It seem that logic is "fill it to the brim" have people come in and get drunk. Then maybe have a live band but its not the priority. It seems that the types of events where there's more open spaces would have to be private parties with smaller guests and the point is for friends to get together?

Many of the ones that the original question asked about had a stable of working girls on site to help with the latter. Also, many of them, especially in the larger cities like New York, Newark, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, etc., were mobbed up to a greater or lesser extent.
Interesting. What do you mean by working girls? Like strippers? At least from the video it seems to me that it was more of a social circle/close friends type of event. A gentleman's club would be slightly different.

Soiled doves.
Ladies of the evening.
Street walker.
Twilight Queens.

No, they were not strippers.

I think there's a bit of a difference between the supper club where the music was subdued and couple could get dressed up for a fine dinner and dancing vs the nightclub which is more focused on loud music and drinking. They supper club was more appropriate for several couples to go out to dinner together and socialize (do people even do that anymore?) vs singles looking to party and hook up.

And I guess that's really what happened to them. Couples don't get dressed up and go out for dinner and dancing anymore. If they go out at all, it's to take the kids for pizza and games at the yucky cheese.

Excellent comment. I was reading, 'Rebecca" and they had this type of dance parties/balls. When Maxime and m=Mrs De Wynter went to socialise with other couples. It seems that their goals were to network as opposed to buying drinks. Why don't couple go out anymore?

B girls, or bar girls. They offered services ranging from smiling and letting you buy them an over priced, watered down drink (so the bar made more profit) to sexual favors.

Yes, I think you're talking about two different types of clubs.

The supper clubs of yesteryear always involved fine dining. In some you brought and registered your own bottle and they had a different type of liquor license because of that. No bar, per se. That's why they called themselves clubs. You needed to be registered to drink there.

I remember Schiek's in Minneapolis had a live show. Many fine dining establishments had dinner music or a piano bar.

What damaged the supper club business in MN was stricter drunk driving laws.
