There are plans to build the world's tallest skyscraper in Changsha China, a working class city of 7 million.

It will be 220 storeys and consist of 1 million sq metres of floor space , 104 elevators.

Get this --- they plan to build it in as little as THREE MONTHS using prefab components. In North America it would take years to build a tower this size!

I think the foundation would take 3 months alone. There's no way it can be done that quickly.

this will be the world's biggest white elephant. and biggest eyesore, at twice the height of the twin towers. insane. I'd hate to be trapped in that thing during a fire or earthquake. it would also be easy for airplanes to fly into it at night and in bad weather. the average skyscraper in china is 90% unoccupied, yet they continue to build more and more of these white elephants. I guess that's one way to artificially inflate your economic growth rate.

that wouldn't be human scale...

During a press conference in 1973, Yamasaki [architect of the twin towers] was asked, "Why two 110-story buildings? Why not one 220-story building?" His response was: "I didn't want to lose the human scale."
