Hwy 6 is notorious for accidents at night and in bad weather. Stop in Green river if you need to.

I have no idea whats the best route, but I drove through Dallas on my way to SLC from Florida a couple of years ago, during the winter.

We took 287 from Dallas to Amarillo, then 87 from Dumas to Ralton NM. Then we got on I-25 to Cheyenne WY and then west on I-80 to SLC.

It snowed when we were in Dumas & NM and it wasn't that bad. Worse part was Wyoming. However the other plan was to get over to St George and take I-15 north, and they actually had worse weather that week there than it did on I-80 in Wyoming.

Anyways, good luck.

Here are the Google Directions:

That's the route I would take. Drove that exact route last January and had no problems. Just watch the weather forecast for big storms and you should be good. Drive safe!
