Hello everyone,

My wife and I will be working in Pocatello ID next week and were thinking of Visiting Utah from Thurs-Sunday.

We are currently in Jackson Wy but cannot find a cheap hotel for those days since there will be a festival then.

So, I was thinking of visiting Utah but have no clue what to visit.

Northern Utah would be best but any suggestions are welcome.

Ideally we would like 'easy' hikes of ~2 hours with return. We just dont have the right clothes or equipment to do anything longer. I would love to see canyon views like I see in some ads but perhaps those are too difficult to get to?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

My first response would be to tell you that hiking in northern Utah right now would be pretty much out of the question. We have been having record snowfalls all winter, with more on the way. The Utah mountains offer tons of wonderful hiking trails in the summer -- just not right now.

Katz is correct. It is snow covered in the mountains right now. This site shows many wonderful hikes, just not sure how accessible they are right now.

Utah Hiking and Backpacking | Utah.com

It is still pretty just to drive down hwy 89 through Logan. If you are into a little outlet shopping, there is a cheese outlet (Gossner's) , Creamies outlet (frosty treats =) , & a Pepperidge Farm one. Love, love, love going to Logan just for those 3 places. lol There is also a coke place there, but it was lunch time when we were there, so we didn't get to go. A Logan native might know more. Hmmm, think I'll post & ask that very question.

Good luck & welcome on your visit, Utah is beautiful!!!!! Hubby & I vacationed through here many times before we moved here. =)

Snowshoeing? We just got some as a family this winter, and being out in the woods surrounded by peace and snow is really a delightful way to enjoy the winter season.

Well, you could either do some desert hiking or xc-ski/snowshoing in the mountains. Most of the good mountain hikes are still a couple of months away.

Do Antelope island. There is no snow and it isn't too hot.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Snowshoeing sounds like a good option.

What is on Antelope Island?
Antelopes?

I'll check on google but any first hand info would be great thanks.

Antelope Island has a herd of buffaloes but not sure if you will see them. When the calves are young in Spring, it is fun to go look at them. There is also a beach and floating in the lake (can't sink in that salty water) but it will be too cold.

Antelope Island has some great scenic hiking trails, lots of wildlife, the Fielding Garr ranch (a restored turn of the century ranch), indian petroglyphs, camping, mountain biking and a wee pot 'o gold at the top of every ridge, free for the taking.

OK, how about just a nice drive south, via SLC, then towards Moab ??
I agree, some boring areas in between, but once around Moab, not half bad at all !!
There are some *low cost* (aka less modern, but still clean) accommodations there. Just get off the main drag to find them.
