I will be visiting Utah this weekend for the first time and I plan to go to Salt Lake City. Anybody have any ideas of things to see in or around Salt Lake City?

How many days will you be in Salt Lake City? What are your interests? Will you have a car? Once I know the answers to those questions, I can keep you busy anywhere from one day to one week.

Take your pick:

1. "This is the Place State Park" and Deseret Village.
2. Hogle Zoo.
3. Clark Planetarium
4. Temple grounds, reflecting pond, gardens, and church conference center.
5. Utah State Capitol Building.
6. Tracy Aviary.
7. Red Butte Creek Gardens and Arboretum
8. Salt Lake City Public Library
9. Walk around the Gateway Mall.
10. Take a drive up one of our canyons: Millcreek; Big Cottonwood; or Parley's all the way to Park City.

In a couple of years, when downtown reconstruction is completed, Salt Lake will be an even more pleasant place to visit.

SLC and Arches are very far away. Driving there would take a good part of a day, then its a full days hike to see the arces themself. I would recommend exloring Summit and Wasatch County for some Alpine sights. Theres a town called Midway which is very nice as is the areas around Jordanelle Resevoire.

I would say do a day trip up one of the canyons near SLC -- City Creek, Little Cottonwood, Big Cottonwood.

Watch for an in-depth list of suggestions tomorrow evening (no time right now). Do you know the exact days yet?

The Great Salt Lake is a horrible stinky puddle. You are better going to Jordanelle Reservoir.
