When I went to a website on Highland I find the following:

"Nearest city with pop. 200,000+: Las Vegas, NV (375.4 miles , pop. 478,434)."

I always thought SLC was at least 200K pop. The 2000 census says around 180K. Surely must be 200K by now.

It's now estimated that there are around 1,000,000 people in Salt Lake County, and being as most of the towns in the county have now melded into one another (think LA), it's pretty safe to say that if you live in the Salt Lake Valley, you're one-in-a-million! (the 2000 Census put the county at 898,387)

I think that the OP was wondering if the actual city (not county) of Salt Lake was at 200k in population yet. I remember seeing more recent data that said it was -- sorry, don't remember where though.

Salt Lake City itself isn't really growing. I'd be surprised if it was 200K at the 2010 Census (although I guess it's possible).

I saw in recent census figures that Utah has a popultion of about 2.2 million people and that the vast majority of it, 82%, is in the Wasatch Range area of the state. I think Llasalost has it right when one thinks of LA. The actual city limits of Los Angeles are surprisingly small when you look at the entire mass of the individual cities eminating from it. When people refer to the numbers in LA it is almost always given as the entire "metro" or LA basin area. SLC, like many growing cities, is likely to follow suit.
