I think there is a debate on how this process of redistricting works. Probably better to have a independent group do it, but it is what it is and Utah isn't the only place that does it this way (ex. Florida).

So anyone know who is running for District 2 (where I live)?

I see the map, I have heard of some candidates, but I don't think even the candidates know what district they are in.

It's always a joke, no matter what state does it. I think we need a federal law. This time, the Democratic area of SLC got put into a huge swath of rural Utah. What in the world do we have in common with them? Districts should encompass mostly similar populations so everyone has a chance to get a like-minded representative.

Well my district (2) covers Bountiful, Tooele, St George and Wendover. Tell me those have commonalities?

I think Matheson is now in District 3 or 4. Bishop is in District 1. Chaffetz is in District 3.

So it makes District 2 the only non-incumbent district. I am still trying to figure out if any of the announced candidates are in the area covered by 2.

Any ideas?

Salt Lake City was already part of the most rural district. There's no win-win possibility. You could argue for 3 smaller, urban districts and one massive rural donut, but that would be impossible for a representative to cover. Rural communities also may not have much in common if they're at opposite ends of the state with different industries, resources, biomes, etc.

They built this map specifically for Wimmer. Pretty disgraceful that a politician can have his own map done up just for him.

Wimmer lives in South Jordan, right? Does that mean he is in the same district as Matheson or is Matheson in the same district as Chaffetz now?

He's got to choose his own district which is the west side district.

Yeah it looks like District #2 to will be Matheson's "home district". Where does he live?

It does sound like the NEW west SL valley district, #4 is perfect for a Wimmer run.

The rural part isn't what was sneaky, it was the Davis County part.

I expected nothing less from the cretins in the legislature. My hope is that Matheson hangs on to his Congress seat and election day there are a lot of fat old men in the legislature kicking themselves because their gerrymandering plan failed.
