Hi, we are currently in NM and looking to relocate to UT in the next few years. We have been up there several times but haven't checked out all the areas.

Can anyone tell us if any of these town/cities have an old fashioned "downtown" area. Active Mom and Pop type stores and cafes in an older part of town (not boarded up and abandoned).

The towns that interest us are:
Nephi
Provo
Orem
Pleasant Grove
Lehi
Lindon
Alpine
American Fork
Highland

Most of our exploring has been in the north and up in the mountain areas, but if we relocate that is not practical for employment. SL County does not interest us - too busy, too crowded, bad air quality. So we are focusing our next trip to areas south.

And if you have any input on any of these areas, please do tell.

Thanks!

The one that comes to MY mind is Springville and Spanish Fort. Springville sure was like going back to the 40's in it's overall look. Very neat. Their downtown is quite quaint.

If you are really that worried about air quality, you will need to be further South than Utah County. Try Cedar City, Torrey, Moab etc on your next trip.

I know Utah county is not "great", but it's slightly better than SL county. Trying to stay in a 50 mile radius of friends there so can't go too far south. Nephi is pushing it.

Where is your job located and how far are you willing to drive to get there? Maybe going a little to the West of SLC would work?

Places between Provo and SLC will be no different. American Fork and Alpine are both just part of the one big city from North Ogden to Springville.

I don't have a job there yet Skibarbie. We are trying to figure out where to focus on. I'm not going to apply for jobs on the exact opposite end of town. Can't stand SLC and don't want to drive thru there every day so I have to focus on either north or south. Our friends live south of there.

We went out to Tooele, Herriman, Eagle Mt. last time. Not our thing. The only rural area that was a maybe was Morgan and Coalville and that is going to be a hike back and forth to work. That's why I was looking for small towns in UT county.
