I am white and my wife is Philippino. We have two sons 2 and 7.
I am in the oil and gas business and see Vernal has some good opportunities.
We are not LDS, really i have no real religion. My wife is catholic, but really does not practice. I have heard and read stories of non LDS being singled out and not treated very well in these areas. Does this still go on? Is it something i should worry about? Personally i don't care, i am a big boy and can handle myself. But can't have my wife and kids treated as aliens or constantly pushed to change beliefs. I have no problem with any religion, to me if you want to pray to a head of lettuce that's fine with me. Seriously don't care. Just don't expect me to do the same. I know many people are moving there for the energy jobs, so, maybe its more of a melting pot by now.

Thanks for any replies.

I would be more worried about finding a decent place to rent or buy. Housing is tight and prices are high as this area is in a boom cycle again. Not sure about diversity but check out Vernal city web to get a better idea about the percentages. My gut says that your family would be fine but find a place to live before you commit to moving out here....

We are from back east and we aren't LDS. We had missionaries stop by once after being here for 2 or 3 years. I politely told them that we weren't interested and we never saw them again. Most of our neighbors are LDS but they don't ever bring it up and our children all play together just fine. I think the oilfields have helped turn Vernal into a giant melting pot. I think you and your family will do just fine. It's a very safe town with excellent schools. Good luck!
