I'm looking at different areas to move and have heard great things about UT.

2 Important things to me.

1. Mountainous, with rivers & large creeks. Camping, hiking, riding horses, shooting. Affordable land, and available land

2. Within 20-25 mins of a cool fun city, culture, things to do, and within 45 of a major airport

Essentially want a place I can find mountain type homes, with land for horses and an outdoor lifestyle yet near people and fun within reason.

I like snow & the cold, and mild summers at the max.

Any ideas or suggestions?

If you have deep pockets, a large lot up Emigration Canyon would be ideal. It's very near Salt Lake City and the related culture and activities, but mountainous and recreational.

Most other places that would provide you with horse property (Bluffdale in southern SLCo, or Kamas/Oakley along the Wasatch Back, for example) are not within 25 minutes of the city and its culture. More like 45-60 minutes.

I will disagree with Zion on this one as Emigration Creek is very small and has its source is mostly below 8K feet and the CFS averages about 2-5...
Nothing in Utah will meet your requirements..
Check out Truckee CA instead.

It's true; Emigration is by no means the large creek you're looking for. It's just a "mountainous" area closest to the city. And nothing is going to be "affordable."
