It's really making the round of media papers/channels/sites. I've even seen it in the British press.

She was probably walking a fine line in her mind between what the Utah Eagle Forum stance is, what the general international media stance is and what her own opinion is and then flubbed it. No matter how she answered she was vulnerable. But at least this way Gayle Ruzicka won't be denouncing her via the infamous phone tree for "destroying America" via feminism.

Miss Utah's response to a question about equality of the sexes was ironic. We teach our male children to be leaders and great orators, and our female children to be followers (esp if they are pretty) and silent supporters of men. She's still young and should see this as a learning experience...don't depend on just beauty to carry you to the grave.

That question was one that no matter how she answered it, she was going to make some group unhappy.

There is so much to understand, when you say men make more money than women. To expect a young beauty contestant to be able to give an intelligent answer to the question, you would have to have more knowledge than she could possibly know.

Overall men earn more than women. A major cause, is the type of jobs traditionally filled by men, pay more money than the jobs traditionally filled by women.

Below is a breakdown of jobs of all types, and the percentage filled by men. Some industries are almost all men, and others are almost all women.

It's not just about answering the question correctly. It's about demonstrating the ability under pressure to be articulate and personable in handling oneself. That's what she failed to do and it cost her. It's simply part of the competitive process.
