They ACTUALLY understand the concept of "living within your means" and not writing checks on an account that doesn't have the money in it. They also understand what it's like to NOT just keep begging for MORE money and making it work with what you already have. NO more bonds, NO more taxes. And hopefully, since they are giving pretty much HALF of the entire budget to "education" we won't continue to hear whining of the various school boards screaming for bonds and taxes. They just need to get OVER it. I realize birth control isn't a popular subject in this state, but an option that may have to be considered as they keep flooding the systems with more kids each year. oops guess my days of mr. popularity are coming to an end here huh?

Actually, I don't think our leaders do know what it means to say "living within your means." For, Utah is one of the welfare states that gets more in federal money than it pays into the system. If the feds were to cut back, Utah would suddenly not have a balanced budget.

Default Non - Metro Development

What do you think about the Gov.'s staff and efforts to get businesses growing or moving to non - metro areas?

Yes, we don't need to worry about educating all those kids. They'll just grow up on their own and make a living washing dishes and stealing the hub caps off your car.

It may be cliche', but if you think education is expensive, try ignorance.

GOED does an excellent job - to the point other states are attempting to replicate our efforts and successes. I know many don't think giving tax incentives and other sources of creative funding to private entities should occur, but it works. It's an investment in our future and it does pay off.

At the end of the day this is nothing but a taxpayer-based subsidy in which taxpayers indirectly subsidize corporate profits. Maybe that's OK, maybe not, but it's an interesting turn in such a red state. In principal not so different from keeping minimum wages so low for all those retail and food service jobs (Walmart) that employees qualify for food stamps. The public pays for those food stamps through taxation thereby relieving Walmart from having to pay a living wage. Oh wait, I almost forgot -- maybe things aren't so hopeless after all, Mike Lee thinks food stamps are unconstitutional (along with FEMA and many other things).

Agreed. Utah is unique in its brand of Conservatism. Though very Red, it also supports some major Socialistic concepts. "Seeding" private enterprise growth is one of those. I won't get into the others here as they are not applicable to the topic at hand.
