If it's true the reasons for it could be identified and maybe duplicated elsewhere.
Personally I have felt that it is a trickle down effect from the Mormon population. There is something to be said for any emotion/act being "contagious" IMHO also.

Mormons in general have a strong work ethic and highly value community service. Not to say that all of the really friendly people will be Mormon, but the fact that the culture so predominates probably has an effect on a lot of the non-Mormon population, too.

Default Breath Of Fresh Air..

What a breath of fresh air that story was! I belong there! Not here..
I'm 7 months pregnant and was buying paint at my local home depot in So Cal. I was at the self check out.. moving right along.. to be harrassad by a ghetto gang banger and his babies momma.. aparantly i was not fast enough what ever.... big huge scene.. left me balling thinking I was done for.. all i remember was looking around watching all these customers just watching as this guy was in my face! Calling me name after name ready to "throw down" i think that's what he said?? Security finally came and offered to walk me to my car. What a freakin eye opener!! Why do i need to put up with this crap?? OVER IT!
Living in the town i grew up in... very sad.. ready to leave, shop, enjoy, be proud, raise my kids, in a city and state that i'm safe and happy in.

Cause they're stupid? lol Not trying to be obnoxious, but I can only chalk it up to ignorance or maybe comparing it to some Utopia that doesn't exist anywhere. I think it's amazing here. I've seen more sunshine and great weather here in 6 weeks here than in any 6 week period my entire life living in the Northeast. It's beautiful, everyone's nice... I don't get all the complaints either.
