It certainly was well worth it to ME doing my side trip version I mentioned in the post above. Not being a hiker it still enabled me to see tons of amazing sites. Just a thought.

i guess i'd call but it's right now it appears you would not be able to. the SL trib article seems to just be the alert the NPS issued that is on the zion website.

Thats something I find strange too Katz as they accomodate all. I find it strange but then I am European and we are used to public transport and not using cars so much!

As much as Zion is beautiful, it is crowded, very crowded this time of year and you will be taking the shuttle and having a good walk through.
I don't know what your timeline is but if you have more than a day, you might consider Bryce Canyon. It's less crowded and for my money is more unusual and beautiful than Zion.

As much as I love Zion, I'm with you. Bryce is my absolute favorite Utah national park.

Zion my favourite, however I think Bryce is wonderful and very underrated by many !

Bryce was my favorite over Zion, till a fellow photographer gave me the tip of the back route that avoids the crowds with tons of amazing views of even more interesting structure.
