I wouldn't be too worried about radiation. After all, millions of people live in Hiroshima and Nagasaki today with little ill effects.

Chernobyl as well. If you take a geiger counter to any of these areas, it remains high.

I've read there might be a difference, as atomic bombs went off well above hitting the ground, so it didn't get into the soil as much.

But still, any area like this, there are marked increases in cancer and other radiation-related illnesses.

It's scary but knowing it takes 1000s of years for radiation to break down, 50 years ago is like it happened yesterday! And isn't it true that energy never dies, just takes other forms??? Anyway, St George was the 2nd fastest growing metro area in the US in 2006, so that says just how worried people are about this lol. Everybody I know including myself, are very healthy and have lived here most of our lives...(born here in '82)

Please! I am sure I glow in the dark. I remember when we used to go up on the bluffs, and watch the mushroom clouds in the 50's and 60's...we would take picnics up there, and watch the explosions...anyone else remember doing that?

Interestingly enough, according to cancer.gov, Utah has the LOWEST cancer death rate of all states in the U.S. by a large margin. It has had the lowest since 1975, when their records start. The 2007 cancer death rate was 127.9 per 100,000. Hawaii was second with 146.2, followed by Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and California. The national average was 178.1, and the highest was Kentucky at 213.7.

Judging from the publicized statistics of the Harry bomb, even huge doses of radiation don't cause massive kill-off of people hit by the radioactive dust. Either that or the special diet of the Mormons is more than enough to offset the radiation.

Washington County, the area hardest hit by the radiation, is even lower than the state average.
