We are considering a move to Utah and are researching the Heber/Midway area. We are self employed and work from home, so we can essentially live anywhere. We currently live in a rural area in Wyoming. We are very active and outdoorsy, which is great in our current location. However, it is just too small. We fly a lot for business which is annoying now, and we just want an area with a larger population and more than a couple stores and restaurants.

SLC is out for us because of the inversions and it just gets too hot in the summer. However, over by Park City seems nice and is relatively speaking pretty close to SLC for occasional trips. Real estate prices are not an issue for us in Park City. However, living not too far from Jackson, WY the whole second home, ski resort, tourist community is not for us. But Heber City/Midway are seems like a pretty good choice for us.

One of our big questions is what is the area like for non-LDS? Where we live now is probably about 20% LDS. Stereotyping here, we like Mormons and have many LDS friends. However, we are familiar with communities where if the LDS percentage is particular high, the church just dominates the town: politically, socially, etc. and we view that as a major negative.

So what is Heber City/Midway like in that respect?

Considering how flexible we are, we are certainly open to other communities to consider. We want to be relatively close to a major city/airport (< 1 hr), mountain/open views are a requirement as are convenient paths/trails, and not too small/rural.

Midway and Heber City are in Wasatch County. Wasatch County is about 73% LDS according to the most recent demographic data. Heber City was named after Heber C. Kimball, a 19th century apostle.
