We just moved to Grantsville (in Tooele county) from Colorado. I used this board many times in preparing to move. I was so nervous and I just have to share with everyone- oh my goodness...these Utah people are so nice! I have never in my life come accross nicer people! I seriously have gained 5 lbs. from all the cookies and goodies we've received welcoming us to the neighborhood- cookies from different neighbors came every night the first week! The neighborhoods I've lived in in Colorado aren't like that. I have had complete strangers in the grocery store, in Big O, in Carl's Jr.- everywhere- offer advice, answer questions, even writing their phone number down for if I need anything...just because they see my out-of-state-licence or over hear me say that I just moved here. And just tonight someone left a small Christmas tree on our front door- rang the doorbell - and ran away with a sweet little story about Christmas trees. It's AMAZING to me how nice people are here! I don't know if it's just a Grantsville thing- or if it's all over Salt Lake- but I just had to share this with anyone thinking about moving out here- we are so happy here!

Congrats on the move! I think you were originally looking in Stansbury Park. Why did you end up choosing a home in Grantsville?

BTW, how has the snow been in the area?

Thumbs up mariewendan

Now that sounded like a good downhome family welcome to the neighborhood! Amen!

Thanks for the encouraging words to the rest of us who may soon be moving to Utah soon, too. That's the family values we're looking forward to.

Yes, you are right- we were VERY set on stansbury park....untill we drove out to South Willow Estates in Grantsville....1/2 acre lots!!! More room inbetween houses and not packed in so tight. Also- we were looking at a house for sale by owner in Stansbury and my husband asked about the covenents with building a shop/shed in the backyard and the lady said "People in Stansbury aren't really the do-it-yourslef kind of people, so I don't know".... well- my husband is very handy and is certainly a do-it-yourself guy. Houses here in South Willow are actually more expensive than Stansbury (I am guessing simply because of the land that comes with the houses)...we actually could have gotten a bigger/newer house in Stansbury for what we paid here,,,but we are so glad we ended up out here. My husband has plans for a big shop and a big playset for the kiddos....More people out here ride motorcycles/jeep/4-wheelers...and we have all that stuff too and like to "play", so this just seemed to be a better fit!!

The snow is GREAT!!!! It snowed for like 48 hours straight! And we got about 9 inches I'd say... but the sun was out and melting it yesterday and today.

Take care!!!!

I can understand not wanting to deal with HOA's and their covenents and restrictions. When I was selling my townhouse earlier this year, in CA, they forced my realtor to take down the for sale sign and put it in a window even though I didn't have any windows visable by normal car or foot traffic.

I hope I can live with the restrictions in Stansbury Park because I found a home there with a floor plan that I really like and I'm moving next week. Hopefully my new neighbors will be friendly, but not too noisy or nosy.

I think you will really like Stansbury Park! It really is a nice place- just not big enough lots for us. We still deal with an HOA here, but they are pretty lax it seems. HOAs are good for protecting your property value. So, are you having a home built? Or is it one that is already built? We did kind of notice a sense of "keeping up with the Jones'" in Stansbury, but that's easy to ignore! I am sure your neighbors will be friendly- I think this friendly thing is not just a Grantsville thing- I think it's a Salt Lake area thing! Good luck on the move. We drove over to Stansbury to look at Christmas lights a couple nights ago and it was really neat- one house had you tune your radio to a certain station and the lights were coreographed (sp?) to go along with the music! I'm not too far from you- let me know if you need anything and good luck with everything!

I found this post as I was looking for more info on Grantsville. I see someone else in South Willow. I've just signed a contract to have a house built in South Willow Estates. Sounds like I made the right decision. We looked at dozens of houses in Tooele, but really liked the Grantsville area at first look. I'm in the Marines and getting stationed there in West Valley City.

Default utah

I was glad to find this post. I have read so many tonight talking about Utahns not being very nice. I have lived here my whole life and have always tried to be welcoming and friendly. I am glad you are getting treated right in the area you decided to move.

Oh- you will love it here in South Willow! It's like a community all of it's own...and everyone is great- the parks are great. Even people that I have talked to from Stansbury said they'd rather be in South Willow. It's beautiful here and I guess you can get to the mountains without even having to trailer your motorcycle or 4-wheelers (my husband loves that idea!) and there's a reservoir just a few miles away! You'll love it... and your commute to West Valley will be very easy. And I must add- thanks for serving our country and for ensuring the freedom of myself and my family. Have a great move!
