For those of you moving this WINTER, are most of you driving there or flying in?

IF this job pans out, we were concerned about the WINTER drive coming from the east thru the mountains on I-80. For those of you who would be coming in from this eastern direction this winter, curious what you're thinking on this as well. Thanks.

Would hate to miss all those beautiful views that come with driving. But doing the drive in winter, we're not too sure about. Don't want to get stuck in a big snowstorm or icy conditions out there w/our kiddies, our pets, and all our stuff.

I figure this question will help many who are reading & also making this move from the East.

IF we end up moving, it might be later in January or in February sometime.

I just got back from driving through the Sierra's on I-80. On the way out, there was one stretch of about 10 miles right at the top of the pass that was a bit dicey, but no restrictions. On the way back, we ended up leaving a day early because a storm was coming. So if there isn't a storm forecast you will be ok, but you will have to be flexible with your schedule. If it gets really bad they close the problem areas of the freeway or make you put on Chains. In those cases, I would personally just sit it out a day. I recall driving to Denver one year in December, and the weather was sunny and the road was dry the whole way, even at 10,000 feet with snow all around.

We moved here a few weeks ago and drove in - our drive wasn't bad- only 6 hours- check the forecast- if it says snow- don't drive- if it says no snow- drive! That's really the only way to do it!

Mountainfaith-

Here is a government website to check the road conditions: http://www.commuterlink.utah.gov/ie.htm (broken link)

If you zoom out you can see the entire state and understand what is going on.

Good Luck.
