Should I move to utah as a 19 year old

maybe or maybe not but odds are you are correct. They have roommates in Utah to share an apartment just like in Mass. If he's living rent free with his parents, he has to go independent sooner or later. Either way, he will have to share an apartment to start in both places and Utah is way cheaper if he moves out from his parent's basement.

If he makes $2,500 a month in Utah, he can share a nice 2 bedroom and 2 bathrooms apt/condo/townhome for $600's each person (each a month). Taxes and the cost of living are lower in Utah so he will keep more of his money. He is going to pay 50% to 55% more in Mass for rent.

here are the numbers: you make 25% more in salary in Mass (average salaries)but you pay 50% more in rent, 20% more in utilities, you pay 50% more in fitness club, 30% more in movies, 35% more in restaurants and 35%+ in groceries. If he has 1 child (never say never) childcare is 50% higher in Mass.


Nothing beats rent free with parents but he has to move out sooner or later and Utah is a nice spot if he has a decent job to start.

You sure do make a lot of assumptions about this person. I'm surprised your assumptions haven't scared the OP off.
