Well-- It's been a few months here in Utah. I have some thoughts. First, it is beautiful here and I look forward to experiencing the winter months- although I am sure it's gonna be a rough one for me. But, I am a winter person and I think I"ll be ok.

However-- there are some things about Utah that I was not prepared for. Specifically, the heavy influence of the Mormon church here which kinda has created some issues for me socially and culturally.

I am trying to be optimistic, but I don't see that as a long term thing I want to deal with. I am trying to be patient and that maybe I can get used to it ?

If not- I am not sure of my next step. Colorado could be an option, but as I have been reading most districts do not give a teacher their full years of experience upon hiring and that would drop my salary far too much. The Denver area (even outside of Denver) has become far too expensive as I have read and I can't see going somewhere more expensive with a reduced salary ??
I dunno ??

You are surprised that Utah has the highest concentration of Mormons in the world? You have been there less than four months. Part of life is making the best of things we choose.

Could you be a little bit more specific here? What kinds of problems have you run into? What options have you explored to make friends, to assimilate, etc.
