My husband got a job in Dugway so now we're looking for a place to live. Looks like the closest town is Tooele.

Does anybody know anything about this place? Any advice about how to find a house and where to look up info about good schools?

I live in Stansbury Park, which is in Tooele County. Tooele is a very nice small town. It is growing larger very quickly though. There are some new businesses slated to move in. A Gold's gym, a Sears, something else too, but it slips my mind at the moment (too early in the morning for me here).

Would you not be living at Dugway? There is housing and schooling there. If not, you can search for housing here
Utah Real Estate - Your One Stop Source for Searching Real Estate in Utah Narrow your search down for Tooele County. Most of the time, the kids go to the school that your neighborhood would dictate. Each neighborhood has their own school boundaries set. Tooele County does have open enrollment, which means you can choose to send your child to any other school in the county provided there is room in that school and you provide the transportation to and from. Of course, there are pros and cons to that.

The local paper is Tooele Transcript-Bulletin That is only published on Tuesday's and Thursdays.

If you have any other questions, please ask or send a PM. I love living here. Good luck with your move.

Thnx for the quick reply. There is a waiting list for housing in Dugway and it looks like we're not gonna get lucky there so we're looking in Tooele.
Too bad because it would be easier for our daughter to go from one DODschool to another.

That website has a lot of nice houses on it but we're looking to rent. We'll probably be there 3 year at the most so buying would not be a smart thing.

And it's realy nice to read something postive about living there! Most people I've talked to act like we're gonna move to the outer circle of hell or the middle of the dessert or something.

I don't know about the outer circle of hell, but it is in the desert. Not like the middle of nomad land or anything, but dry. There are plenty of buildings and civilization.

Rent. Of course. Sorry. Dummy me. In the paper I listed above, it has some nice homes in Tooele for rent. I would imagine it is a bit hard to do from Germany. Both DH and I are Air Force brats, so the relo thing is all too familiar with us. He actually spent 4 years in Germany and loved it!

I could find the number for a property management company in Tooele who would probably be some assistance.

I personally think Tooele is a nice, small town of about 40,000. It's not a "big city" lifestyle, but the neighbors are friendly and housing is affordable. Unfortunately, shopping wise, there isn't much outside of Wal-Mart and Home Depot (and a couple of grocery stores), but there is enough that you won't have to drive 40 minutes to Salt Lake every week.

Hi Lil Phoenix...I just moved to Tooele from Michigan in March. I like the town. The people are friendly, and I call my friends in MI and tell them that the dogs go around and visit each other just like the kids do!

I live in a newer subdivision near the medical center. Here are some things I know about the area:
There's an art show this week-end, which my co-worker said is pretty cool with a lot of talented artists. There's an indoor community aquatic center, which is nice..there's a seperate lap pool from where the kids play (which is great for me, since I'm a swimmer). Last Friday night, my husband and I drove by a free outdoor concer. It seems to me that there is always something to do around the area. Here's a link to the City website: Tooele City which you can navigate to find parks and rec info. I went to the library last week-end too. Eventhough it's not huge, it is a nice library, they have reading programs (like a summer program for the kids AND adults!), and events sometimes.
You could go out to eat for about 10-14 days at least and not eat at the same place, so there is a variety of eateries. There is also some type of night club...I'm not sure if you need to pay a membership to get in or not, but it looks pretty cool, it's 2 or 3 stories high and they are a micro-brewery as well.

There are about 4-7 houses (one right next door to us) for sale in our area right now. The prices are reasonable, and the homes are nicely built. I married my honey, who bought his home about 5 years ago, and it's appreciated in value by $75,000 in that time - and he hasn't done any major work on it, since it's a new home. That's just how fast the area is growing!

There is also a Tooele Co. extension and a satellite campus for Utah State University and the Community College out here.
While this is a far cry from home (MI), and I miss the lush greenery and all the water (you were never more than 5 miles from a body of water in MI), this area has it's natural beauty, and if you like the outdoors, you can always find something to do.
Let me know if you would like any other info, I'm glad to help

I forgot to mention that there are also houses to rent in my area as well...

We finally made it to Utah, not an easy trip but we made it.

Graniepat, how can Grantsville be the closest town to Dugway??? On the map it's north of Tooele and that means it's not as close doesn't it?
But I've heard from other people that it's worth taking a look there so if you know any websites about rentals there that would be very welcome.

Witty, wise and wicked (lovely nick!), the way you describe Tooele I would just jump up and move there in a heartbeat!
I read a small local newspaper about what's going on in Tooele this summer and it sure looks nice.
Do you have any info about those houses for rent?

We're gonna drive to Tooele on Friday to look around and it would be nice to have some idea where to start looking.

And thnx for the website, looks very useful with lots of info.
