Hi everyone,
I'm a new to the state, moved here 4 mos. ago from So. Cal. Ok is it me or is there a real "good old boy" and/or LDS network when it comes to landing a job. I have excellent qualifications and references. I test and interview fantastically yet I cannot find full time employment. I am currently working a part time job while looking for F/T and I think the only reason I got that was because I "name dropped" in the interview...the HR Mgr. knew the family I'm renting from. Whats the scoop? I'm trying to stay in No. Utah for work since thats where I live...I've heard this kind of problem doesn't really exist in SLC but I don't want to drive that far. Please someone out there give me some honest info on this...its driving me crazy. Thanks in advance.

Well I'll be in trouble for posting this but yes, in general I think it is very tough to find a job in Utah, though I wouldn't say it is directly related to the LDS factor. I'm not LDS and I've had a tough time in Salt Lake, but I'm under qualified for many jobs. You might give Salt Lake a try, or maybe just forget it and Utah altogether.

Thanks for the honesty; I do appreciate it. I'm here for the duration and will find that full time job sooner or later. Just getting a bit frustrated

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Utah and living here. But - in some places there is most definitely a 'good ol' boys LDS club'. I've experienced it first hand. Can I prove it? No - but in our entire dept., over several years time, the only people promoted by the boss - a bishop btw - were those of LDS faith. In each and every instance. Upon getting the job, I was even told to expect it, and sure enough they were right. It's actually what led to me leaving the place for greener pastures. Complaints were filed, but I don't have time to play those games.

Certainly, it's not everywhere, and as Utah grows I imagine it will decline. But yes it does exist. Hopefully you get lucky and find a place that no such thing occurs at.
