Hi All.

I know there's hundreds of these threads - but none seem to relate enough to me. I'm 25 year old single male, non-LDS, yet very open minded (and conservative). It looks very likely that I will end up working out of Logan/Providence area for work in the coming weeks, and be there for a few months at least, possibly for good if I like it - what should I expect?

I come from major cities - I do enjoy socializing, going out and having a drink and sports. I enjoy basketball, but not the Utah Jazz (Rockets fan..what can I say) so will be watching games via directv it seems.

I know Logan is a college town - but I'm assuming it's not the type of college town I'm affluent too. Should I basically expect trips to SLC/flights to Vegas/etc for entertainment?

I'll probably find a nice hotel/b&b to stay in while I'm there, at least for the first few months - recommendations?

What am I in for..

Logan is a quiet town, and not quite as, er, lively as some other college towns I am used to. I moved here from a major city where I lived in a city neighborhood, and did not own a car for 7 years. It was a shock moving here. Its been a year, and I still hate the fact that I have to drive everywhere.

Logan has some pretty good restaurants, which helps. But there are really only 3 real bars.

If you like the outdoors, this is a great place to be. Tons of hilking, mountain biking and road biking, plus skiing - Beaver mountain is only a 40 min or so drive from Logan.

Things that have taken some getting used to for me:
1) People here marry really young. In fact, there was some story in the university paper that said about 50% of all university seniors are married. Definitely different than what I was used to when I was in school.
2) Driving everywhere. I try to bike and walk, but given where I currently live, I get tired of walking up the damn hill everyday to get anywhere.
3) Many places close at 6:00 pm pm weekdays and very little is open on Sundays.

What is good:
1) Very pretty with mountain views from almost anywhere
2) Affordable living
3) Very easy access for outdoor activities.

As for nice hotels, it depends on what you mean and what your standards are. There are definitely some hotels/motels I would not step foot in.
